Just My Tots

I have had people asking me to blog about myself and my son. Now I kena from Miche who wants to know about my mom…Turns out there are a lot of common facts about our moms..

1. My mom is a fantastic cook. Even my husband says so. My favorite dishes from her,..Ku Lou Yok (stewed pork with yam), Tu Kar chor (black vinegar pork trotter).

2. She is good at sewing. When I was small, she will sew Chinese New Year dresses, and PJs for my sister and I. She actually sewn all my choir costumes in secondary school.

3. She has never work outside the home. She did do some work from the home when we were young but these are usually short stints. Eg, helping out a neighbour with some tailoring jobs, or my aunt with her home-based business.

4. She is very protective of us when we were young. She did not allow us to take public transportation on our own until we were in secondary school, and our school is only 5 mins away by car or 20 mins walk away. When my father was ill, she’ll either walk us to school or take bus with us.

5. She cannot drive or ride a motorbike. She had a motor accident when she was younger and she dare not take any lessons from then onwards.

6. She did cane me when i was naughty but she was careful not to leave any visible marks. She say that if the teachers see the marks, they may be less hesitant to cane us at school (not that caning was a practice in school). I guess she thinks that she can beat us if we are naughty but no one else has the rights to cane us.

7. Next to me, Bryan is most attached to my mom. My mom helped me to take care of my son from day #1 since I took him back from the hospital.

8. She has never traveled on an aeroplane ride until 3 years ago when my sister and I belanja her to her first plane ride.
