Tiramisu…”I miss you”….I think that is the meaning in Italian. Until many years ago, I do not understand what is the craze about tiramisu. It just taste like coffee cake. What’s so special about it?
That is I tasted tiramisu at a restaurant in UK…I blown away by the taste. It is like a taste of heaven…that makes you go….Ahhhhhhh…..
I could not find tiramisu like that in Malaysia because most of them are made without liqueur. That is until my aunt learnt how to make it….YIPPEE.

My aunt makes the best tiramisu. Layers of soft vanilla sponge soaked with rum & coffee, layered with mascarpone cheese. It is a melt in your mouth heavenly sensation! I have never tasted tiramisu like hers in Malaysia yet. Actually, after I tasted her cakes, I no longer go for the commercial gourmet cakes. Secret Recipe, Manila Place, etc…are no match to hers.
My ex-colleagues in my old dept are all crazy about her tiramisu (and her other cakes). We would order a big tiramisu cake (~3kg) and it is not even enough to share because everyone wants to take home some for their family to try.
My current colleagues had the chance to taste my aunt’s tiramisu cake today. And it is also only after months of bugging me to bug my aunt.
My aunt used to be very active in her homemade cake & pastry business. She also taught baking classes. But recently she invested in another more profitable business and therefore is spending less time in her homemade cake & pastry business.
But luckily I am her favorite niece, so she will always make one for me if I tell her I really really missss her cakes……
