Mizi Bistro @ New World Park

I have passed by the New World Park numerous times but last Saturday evening was the first time that I went there to eat.

NWP features a clean and spacious hawker center, and I spotted plenty of baby chairs around. So it is definitely a place that I can take Bryan to.

But we ate at the Mizi Bistro. We chose the set menu which comprise of drink, soup, main course and free flow icecream.

The set menu was very flexible. The regular price is RM16.90++. You can choose any item from the ala carte soup. For the main course, you can choose any item from the ala carte menu except for Smoked Salmon, Meat & Chef’s Specialty section. All of us chose from the regular menu except my husband who chose the Fillet Mignon from the Meat menu. So he had to top up another RM6 on top of the ala carte price to a total of RM35. Still not expensive for Fillet Mignon.

I chose Fish Gordon Bleu, and my friends had the Lasagne and Chicken Parmigiano.

Verdict:-

The mushroom soup was thick and creamy. The quality is almost like the ones that you will find at 5 star restaurants…Almost ;) . I find the French Onion soup a little salty, and I would recommend the mushroom soup over the French onion. They also have Ox tail soup in the menu but they were not available that day.

The fish was nicely done. I was expecting a bit of the frozen fish smell that sometimes are present in cheap fish fillet meals, but there was none. My friend who is a pasta lover find that the lasagna is a little bit salty but it was above average for the price that we were paying. The Chicken parmigiano came with fettuccine with tomato sauce. So it was a really huge serving for one person. The fillet mignon tender was served with mushroom sauce. If it was a little thicker, it would have been lovely. I love thick steaks as they are more juicy.

Total bill was RM98 for 4 persons. Certainly not bad and at a price that would bring many people back again.

The hawker eateries are quite common at the places abound with the tourists. The vacation packages to any corner of the globe can be found in the travel pages of the daily papers. From the myrtle beach vacation packages that can be booked at any time around the year to the most exotic san diego vacation packages , you just do not need to look around very far to find a deal that is a good value for the cost. Even the all inclusive houseboat vacations are very popular as they give the tourists all the chances to pick and choose all the options even before they plan a vacation

  1. Why oh why did they resort to increasing the price from RM16.90 to RM19.90 for their set menu? Maybe they know that they are so high in demand - always crowded and reservation is needed during lunch and dinner time. An issue of demand versus supply? Whatever the reason… it won’t come across well, especially for regulars or regulars-wannabes like me. And this is how they return the favour? Maybe we should suggest to them to bring their prices back down to the original RM16.90 rate. That is why they became so famous in the first place… cheap and good!

  5. I know there are many shops there, but I will inevitably end up with the hawker food and ais kacang. The pull is just too great.
