Happy baby wearing

Last weekend was the first time that I really use my sling pouch. Haha, finally when my baby is 4 months old. Never too late to start.

We went to the butterfly farm around noon. Since it will be hard to navigate a stroller in the farm (stairs & uneven pavement), I decided to use the sling.

Initially I thought that Dylan will be very hot in the sling. I think it wasn’t. I tried to stay in the shade whenever possible, and when I felt that it was getting a little too warm, we went into the auditorium to enjoy the aircon. The dark auditorium is also a good place to bf Dylan since I have yet to learn how to bf in the sling.

My colorful sling did attract a lot of attention in the farm (or maybe it was my cute bb..hehe). One mother actually came up and talk to me & Dylan. She said, “Baby, baby, you are so lucky (xing fu). Very happy to be in your mummy’s embrace. “ She later continued, “Mommy, you are very clever. So much easier to carry a baby like this hor.”

I smiled and said yes.

Then she said, “My maid used to carry my kids in sarong just like you. She carried them until they are very big. They loved it.”

At this moment, my husb was giggling at the back lioa. When she left, my husb said… “haha..she say you look like a maid ah. You should say that you are, but Chinese one, not Indon!” *gives killer stare*

But honestly, carrying a baby in a sling is much easier than carrying in just your arms. It is still heavy, but the load is carried on your shoulders and across your back rather than just your arm.

My baby-wearing experience continued later in the evening at the shopping mall. This time, skills upgrade liao. Can move baby in the sling when he falls asleep.

When Dylan first fell asleep, i moved him slightway but I still have to support the weight of his head in my arm…Adoi tired-nya.

Then when he stirred in his sleep, I took the opportunity to move him to the other side of the sling, so that the sling is supporting his head, and my arms could be free. See how comfy he is in the sling…

can suck thumb sommo….*awww, cute ler?*

I carried him for more than 2 hours that evening alone. And the next day, I have a slightly sore shoulder. I find that slipping the baby out of the pouch sling when the bb is asleep is very difficult, or else I would have transferred Dylan into the stroller. I think having a ring sling will be easier to slip out as you can loosen the sling. I don’t know…will try that when my fren’s mom finished sewing the sling for me. Then again, Bryan is using the stroller cause he is too lazy to walk. Rather carry Dylan than Bryan anytime.

Hmmm…I should make hubb wear the sling. I have already carried the bb for 9 months in my womb, now I have to continue to carry him outside.

But I hope la, he won’t wear the sling one. Carry until hand wanna break also won’t wear sling one.

  2. I love the sling too. Sling Ashley ALL The time till she was getting too heavy to be carried. Now she sits in the stroller, but when she wants to nap when out shopping, she still ask for the sling. I get stares at so much (from then , worse now that Ashley is so big) I have really thick skinned about the stares now.

  6. I’m all for the sarong sling (with rings) because I carried him during my trip to Sri Lanka. It was PERFECT!

    Read about it here: http://apregnantpause.net/2007/12/27/bumwear-sarong-sling/

Just check that the one your Mum’s friend is sewing is double-stitched securely and the rings are sturdy ok?

Love the last photo of Dylan sucking his thumb :-) You’re tempting me to start planning for No. 2 earlier than scheduledlah

  7. Ah..he looks real comfy! I’m still looking for a good comfy cloth sling. The babybjorn…is quite stiff and un-sleepable! ha ha ha!

I think you look really great carrying him! For a small size person.. you sure are strong!

  12. I was debating on getting a sling ‘cos Cassie still doesn’t like to be worn in the baby bjorn for more than 30 mins.

Shooi: Maybe Cassie diden like certain positions. I think a sling has more carrying positions than the bb bjorn, so there are a better chance of finding a position th bb will like.
